We believe this very special ring to be English in origin. It has been exquisitely created in 18k gold (tested). The diamonds are very white considering they are old mine cut diamonds.

Old mine is the name given to Brazilian diamonds which were discovered in alluvial (river) deposits in 1725. They were only given the name Old Mine once newer deposit in South Africa were discovered in 1867. Old Mine cut diamonds were cut according to the knowledge and tools available at the time of manufacture.

They were cut with high crowns because the only way to fashion a rough stone was to grind it from the top with diamond powder. In order not to waste precious material most of the original rough was retained. These high crowns interacted beautifully with candle light, providing all the fire that drives people to seek out old mine cut stones.

Diamonds such as these will never be manufactured again. They are a limited resource and as such a valuable commodity, as well as being very beautiful.

This ring is set with 11 old mine cut diamonds. The central diamond weighs approximately 1.35ct and is assessed in setting as G/SI1 clarity. The remaining 1.25tcw are G/VS/SI1.
