A Cartier Maillon Walking Panthère necklace from the late 1980s, now firmly a collector's piece.
Examples rarely come to market, and we are very lucky to have this one.
The detail. Each maillon (link) sits against the next to make a beautifully articulated chain. The panthère looks as though it is about to walk off the neck. Its eyes are set with Emeralds and its nose is a piece of carved Onyx.
The story. Panthère de Cartier has a history dating back to 1914, and the house has reinterpreted its panther from collection to collection ever since.
Signed and cased. Signed Cartier 750, with French eagle hallmark and French maker's mark, and supplied with a Cartier case. The necklace measures 16 inches (40.5cm) in length and weighs 94 grams.
