An original French Art Deco brooch of exceptional construction: Rock Crystal, 26 old cut Diamonds and calibré cut Sapphires.
The fineness of the work is typical of the Parisian artisans of the period, and it makes this a true collector's piece. Pinned to a lapel, it does a great deal for its size.
The detail. The 26 old cut Diamonds, approximately 1.56ct in all, are of approximately G colour and VS clarity. The Sapphires are calibré cut: shaped to fit their settings exactly, so they sit in unbroken lines. Rock Crystal was a favourite material for brooches in the 1920s and 1930s.
Marks. The setting tests as platinum, and the hinge and pins test as 18k gold. The hallmarks are partially visible, including the French mark for platinum (a young girl's head). The brooch measures 34 x 24mm.
