Bulgari was originally a Greek company, founded in 1884 by Sotirios Voulgaris (Bulgari in Italian) in Rome. They became renowned for coloured stones and for becoming a favourite jeweller of Elizabeth Taylor, who discovered Bulgari whilst shooting the iconic film 'Cleopatra' in Rome, back in 1963.
