We're not really sure we want to sell this pendant... Never have we seen a more beautiful rendition of the Madonna. She is beatifically beautiful!
Frédéric Charles Victor de Vernon was born in 1858 in Paris where he spent most of his life until his death in 1912. He was a feted sculptor, engraver and medallist. Exhibiting every year at the Parisian Salons he won the premier prix de Rome for his depiction of Jason Conquering the Golden Fleece.
Vernon's medals are highly collectable. The British Museum holds a medal of a woman in side profile. A Bronze version of this pendant is displayed in the Musée D'Orsay.
This pendant, from around 1901, features a folding bail and converts into a brooch. On the back are engraved roses. The brooch frame may have been added later.

The pendant measures 23mm x 21mm and weighs 8.9 grams.
Stamped with French hallmarks.
