An exceptional Art Deco engagement ring, first sold in 1933 and still accompanied by its original receipt.
James R Ogden Jewellers of St James, London W1, sold this ring for £150: a princely sum in 1933. The receipt and the original box have stayed with it ever since, and whoever wears it next becomes custodian of a piece of history.
The Diamond. The centre stone is an original transitional cut, the bridge between the Old European Cut and the modern round brilliant. Cut to fine proportions for its day, the stone still shows the chessboard faceting typical of the type. The GIA grades it 3.75ct, E colour, VS2 clarity, and a transitional cut stone of this rare white colour is seldom found.
The detail. The shoulders carry two half-moon Diamonds and a further pair of shield-shaped stones. Set into the gallery is a hidden halo of old single cut Diamonds. The ring is mounted in platinum.
Certified and assessed. We have had the centre Diamond certified by the GIA and the ring itself independently assessed. The ring is currently a UK P½ / US 7.75 and can be re-sized; our free re-sizing covers it.
