Bulgari’s flagship boutique opened in 1905 on Rome’s Via dei Condotti. Since then, the company has looked to Rome as a source of reference for its fanciful and decidedly romantic jewellery designs.

The name Bulgari was an Italianisation of the Greek founder Sotirios Voulgaris’s name. He later co-opted the Roman alphabet in the BVLGARI moniker in a nod to ancient Rome.

In the 1930s BVLGARI’s signature style emerged: bold, often using yellow gold embellished with big colourful gemstones. This departure from demure traditional styles developed the house’s exuberant multi-gem looks, attracting celebrity collectors like Elizabeth Taylor.

1980s pieces are particularly sought after, and this fabulous BVLGARI curb link necklace is a must for anyone with a taste for classical, beautiful design. Featuring a cabochon sapphire, ruby and emerald, each is bezel set and accented with baguette cut diamonds.

Unusually, the necklace is presented in perfect condition, complete with its original leather case.

Fully signed and stamped Bvlgari 750 (18k Gold). Length is 14½ inches or 36 centimetres; the necklace weight is 65.4 grams.
